Riley Green released "Go Again" on July 3, a duet with Hannah McFarland and the third song out ahead of his fourth studio album, That's Just Me, due September 18 on Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment.
Green wrote "Go Again" by himself. Dann Huff produced it, as he did the whole record.
McFarland is not a guest brought in for the marquee. A fellow Alabama native, she has opened for Green for the better part of two years and already shares a record with him, "I Just Need You," from the deluxe edition of Don't Mind If I Do; she also steps to his mic on "Don't Mind If I Do" live. "Go Again" trades verses from both sides of a goodbye that never quite finishes, Green's low baritone underneath and McFarland's brighter top end answering it, warm acoustic and a little slide guitar and not much else crowding the room. Green teased the song on social media back in September 2024. It took the long way out.
The hook is the small out the title keeps open: skip the plane and stay one more time.
"Go Again" arrives six weeks behind "Think As You Drunk," still the loudest song in the rollout. Green built that one as an open tribute to Toby Keith, interpolating Keith's 2005 hit "As Good As I Once Was" and writing it with Jessi Alexander, Erik Dylan, and Wyatt McCubbin. Keith's family signed off through his longtime manager, T.K. Kimbrell, then went a step further: they put Keith's own vocal into the outro, a posthumous last word from a writer Green has covered at nearly every show he plays. Green told Billboard the best compliment he can give a song is that it "feels like a Toby Keith song." A portion of the proceeds goes to the Toby Keith Foundation, which works with children in cancer treatment. The song debuted at number 24 on Hot Country Songs and number 29 on Country Airplay.
That gives That's Just Me three songs in the world before September. "My Way," the ballad Green sang in his acting debut on CBS's Marshals this spring, came first. "Think As You Drunk" followed. "Go Again" makes three, and the trio doesn't settle into one mood. Green is out on his Cowboy As It Gets tour into the fall, McFarland along for select dates.
